Once in this region, one should see the Sea Eye. The water is crystal clear and turquoise - a real natural phenomenon, since the sea eye is only fed by groundwater.

You can combine that with each other. You park the car at the Sereinig inn and then go over the Meerauge and the Bodenbauer to the fairytale meadow. On the way back then stop at Bodenbauern.

The Sea-Eye (Slow Jezerce) [17] is a dead ice hole created in the ice age by a glacier with a pond in the middle. It is located near the Gasthof Bodenbauer in 1052 meters above sea level and is accessed by a well-secured trail. The distinctive turquoise color of the water is caused by algae. The emergence of the Meerauges is due to the last ice age (70,000 to 10,000 years ago), the so-called Würm Ice Age. In addition to the mighty Draugletscher formed in the Karawanken local glaciers, whose largest was probably the Bodental Glacier. This ranged from the Vertatscha-Kar almost 6 km out of the valley to just before Windisch-Bleiberg. The glacier covered the entire valley floor and was up to 120 m thick. With the increasing warming about 12,000 to 10,000 years ago, the Bodental glacier retreated gradually, with a lake forming in the ice-free apron. This was gradually filled up over time by rock material. In the place of today's sea-eye was probably a left-behind dead ice lump, which left a visible depression after its complete melting. This depression is fed exclusively by the flow of groundwater in the alluvial debris layers of the valley floor, indicating the rising at the bottom of the sea eye sources. (Wikipedia)

Those who see the Sea Eye believe in magic – or Photoshop. But it's simply real. A small, round wonder into which you gaze for a long time, unsure whether you're looking at water or sky. It's so clear, so turquoise, that even time seems to hold its breath.

A pond like a lens through which you can see deep down into another world. Tree trunks lie on the bottom, overlaid with reflections of light, as if a giant had sunk his collection here. The water is still, but not silent – it speaks of glaciers, of cold, of nature's retreats, the likes of which no human could ever create.

A hiking trail leads directly to it. Wooden planks underfoot, the sound of your own breath in your ears. Some stay only briefly. Others linger. Because once you've looked into the Sea Eye, you carry it with you for a long time. Like a question that needs no answer.

And if you're lucky, you'll hear it: the faint call from the depths. Not threatening, not loud – but clear. An invitation to slow down. Or at least to walk with more open eyes.
