The fortress on the striking mountain Asperg can be seen from afar. It has been used as a prison since the beginning of the 18th century. Since 1968, it houses the prison hospital of the Baden-Wuerttemberg judiciary.

Centuries and shows why they were imprisoned. The House of History Baden-Württemberg has set up the impressive exhibition at this historic location. The fortress Hohenasperg was from 1535 to 1693 an active fortress of the country Württemberg on the Asperg (also called Hohenasperg) with the city Asperg in the today's district Ludwigsburg (Baden-Wuerttemberg). It served as a prison since the beginning of the 18th century, in which many prominent political prisoners were imprisoned until 1945. Since 1968 it is enforcement hospital of the Baden-Wuerttemberg judiciary.
