The Stapelburg is one of the most beautiful places to hike for the special issue Castles and Palaces and a great photo opportunity. The place is very well maintained and you will find numerous opportunities to rest here.

The Stapelburg is a still partially preserved ruin over the eponymous village Stapelburg. Here is a stamp of the Harzer hiking needle since 2019 which belongs to the castles and locks stamps. Here you have a really nice view over the village Stapelburg, to the church up to the Brocken. The Jungborn is also not far away and can be well connected with the ruins.

It is a very old border that was secured in the Middle Ages by the "Stapelnburg", which had already fallen into disrepair at the beginning of the 16th century. The castle was transferred to the archiepiscopal and Braunschweig jurisdiction by SIGISMUND VON BRANDENBURG (1538-1566), Archbishop of Magdeburg and administrator Councilor Dr. HEINRICH VON BILA (1535-1584). This happened against the will of the sovereign, the Counts of Stolberg. The new owner then not only had the castle expanded into a stately property, where in 1573 14 men lived with their commander ( probably with their families). Castle not unscathed.

A beautiful path along the Ecker River!
Especially in spring, wood anemones and violets bloom here, and the Ecker River is flat and meanders along the path. Information panels explain the history, for example, the history of the Muna, a Wehrmacht ammunition depot. You can also take the wide path, which follows the former border and is also very well signposted.
