In the past, the source of the Sohlquelle was a meeting place for the Neuendorfers, Nantenbachern and also the Sackenbachers. Hunters, forest workers, herdsmen and Sunday strollers regularly took a break there, refreshing themselves and quenching their thirst. In wartime, the source served as a refuge and hiding place for the citizens. Thus it is reported in old traditions: "In the war year 1866 almost all inhabitants of Neuendorf and Nantenbach fled out of fear of the Prussians into the forest. At the Sohlquelle, they set up their camp under large oak trees. "In the Third Reich, the Sohlquelle was even declared a natural monument by the Reichsnaturschutzgesetz; all changes and damage in the area around the source were prohibited.
