    Worth seeing Schauburg, during the construction of which the remaining medieval building remains were included in the redesign. The castle has already served as a backdrop for several (well-known) films.

          A "Frankenstein castle" that was built in the late 19th century by putting together bits and pieces of old castles from all over Europe.

          Excellent place for a weekend trip from Vienna - be it per car, local train (+hike) or with a bike. Even better when combined with a birds show next to the castle and rounded up with a beer or two and some food in a restaurant that's right in front of the castle and has absolutely beautiful view at the valley of Danube and Vienna.

            Kreuzenstein Castle is a historically significant hilltop castle, perched approximately 260 meters above the Korneuburg Basin and offering impressive views as far as the Vienna Woods. Its origins date back to the 12th century; however, it was largely destroyed during the Thirty Years' War. Between 1874 and 1906, the Austrian nobleman Johann Nepomuk Count Wilczek had the castle rebuilt on its medieval foundations. Original components and works of art from various European regions were incorporated, giving the complex a particularly authentic, medieval appearance.

            Today, the castle is one of the most impressive examples of Neo-Romanesque architecture in Austria. Particularly worth seeing are the magnificent Knights' Hall with the so-called "Brixen Cabinet" from the 16th century, the fully equipped castle kitchen with an over seven-meter-long oak table, and the 60-meter-high keep with a 15th-century clock.

            A visit to the castle is an ideal detour during a bike ride along the Danube Cycle Path or on a tour through the Weinviertel region. The final few meters of ascent involve a short but worthwhile climb – and you'll be rewarded with a unique view.
