The first church to be rebuilt after the First World War was the massive, plastered hall church in Bommelsen, built in 1929/30, which bears its name not without reference to the terrible events of the war. The small church is of a simple design with a ridge tower on the gable roof above the west wall and a recessed choir in the east. The walls are divided by round-arched windows, above which the eaves cornice runs as a connecting and decorative element. The most elaborately designed is the west facade, the display and entrance side of the chapel. Here the protruding portal in boulder masonry and the triple window above it divide the wall surface. The light-colored plastered interior is spanned by a wooden beam ceiling, the elements of which protrude into the room in a distinctive way. However, the church may already have a much longer tradition. There are suspicions, although these cannot be proven by findings on site or written sources, that there was once a small chapel between Klein Harl and Bommelsen. After several failed attempts at the beginning of the 20th century to build a chapel for the village, the long winter of 1928/29 led to new considerations.
