The St. George Chapel is the second oldest building in the city of Neuruppin. The timber-framed church, which is only around 70 square meters in size, was first mentioned in 1362. When exactly it was created is still not clear today. It was built in the Middle Ages outside the city wall as part of the Georg Hospital. At first, lepers were housed there to avoid epidemics in the city. Later, poor widows, needy families and old people were allowed to live there. For a long time, prayer in the chapel was part of everyday life for these people. At the end of the 19th century, the house rules still state that all residents had to come to the chapel every evening. Only those who were sick were allowed to be absent.
