Until 2017, marl was extracted here. This latest extraction in Groeve 't Rooth is the last in a series of excavations in recent decades. The areas developed in the past have already been completed and transferred to Het Limburgs Landschap at an earlier stage. There a plant and animal world develops that is adapted to the special conditions in the quarry. Both quarry owners have made agreements about management. It results in one integrated management of the entire quarry with Konik horses and Dutch goats. The quarry is not freely accessible to the public due to the safety requirements imposed by the Sibelco company - the other owner. However, a viewpoint on the east side of the quarry along the Keunestraat near the exit to the hamlet of 't Rooth offers a beautiful panorama of this unique piece of nature.
