The history of St. Fachtna's Holy Well goes back centuries. Saint Fachtna, also known as Fachanan, was an Irish saint who lived in the 6th century. He founded the Church of Ross Carbery in Cork and is venerated in the Catholic Church as the patron saint of Rosscarbery and the Bishopric of Ross. The shrine that bears his name is a sacred well that has long been visited by locals to pray for health and well-being.
The walk to St Fachtna's Holy Well starts near Carron, a picturesque village in the heart of the Burren. The walk is a beautiful and varied route that leads through hills, forests and meadows. There are numerous impressive views of the stunning Burren landscape and surrounding mountains along the way.
