Beautiful historic old town with a local museum in the Black Horse, the residence palace of Count Palatine Friedrich from 1619 with remarkable stucco ceilings with astrological and mythological motifs on the first and second floors, the castle ruins from the 10th century, the late Gothic town hall, the parish church of St. John the Baptist and the Jahrsdorferhaus.

The city is a real gem on the Rothsee with good gastronomy and cafés (in the old town ice-cream parlor and café-bisto 1601 and Café Schmidt just outside Rothsee).

The Landgasthof Fuchsmühle on the equally recommended hiking trail "Mühlenweg", on which numerous mills are lined up, is highly recommended.

Also worth seeing is the Eisenhammer in Hofstetten near Eckersmühlen (industrial museum). Every 1st Sunday in August is the castle festival with parades in historical costumes.
