    Castellina, located between the provinces of Pisa and Livorno, is a fascinating medieval village whose origins date back to the Etruscan era. This enchanting place stands on Mount Vitalba, the highest peak of the Pisan hills, which hosts a wind farm and connects the municipalities of Castellina and Chianni via the panoramic Montevaso road. From the top of this hill, on clear days, you can admire a breathtaking view that extends from Volterra to the Tuscan archipelago and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

      Situated on the border between the provinces of Pisa and Livorno, Castellina is a village of medieval structure, but of more ancient origin, perhaps Etruscan.
      It lies on the slopes of the highest peak of the Pisan hills, Mount Vitalba; this houses a wind farm on the top and separates the municipalities of Castellina and Chianni, linking them through the winding and scenic Montevaso road.
      From here you can admire a wide panorama that, on clear days, ranges from Volterra to the Tuscan Archipelago and the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines.

      The territory of these hills is mostly agricultural, famous for the production of good wines and oil, but it also abounds in places of natural interest (Castellina Forest, Santa Luce Forest, Natural Reserve of the Santa Luce Lake), as rich in Mediterranean vegetation and woods of pines, oaks, cork oaks, Turkey oaks, chestnut trees.
      The brushwood is still populated by wild animals of various species: wild boars, deers, squirrels, foxes, buzzards and other birds of prey.

      From Castellina, going down towards the sea along the SP33 road, you enter the territory of Rosignano Marittimo, while driving along the SP13 (the Route of the Wine) can visit the famous Buddhist Center (Institute Lama Tsong Khapa) at Pomaia.
