Originally, there was a bell tower on the west gable of the church. During the construction of the nunnery of the monastery (1330) had this soft. The present-day freestanding bell tower is located about 45 m east of the church. It dates back to the 18th century and houses four bells and two bells.
At the end of the 14th century, the Wienhaus bell tower was erected in a manner that is quite common in northern Germany. A freestanding, wooden-covered tower was placed slightly off the church. The stability of the belfry could be increased by a final truss construction. The bell tower once offers the viewer a steadfastly defiant exterior. If the bell tower could tell stories, it would tell of happy chattering baptismal societies, of festive wedding bands, but also of many sad events. Around the bell tower was the cemetery from 1534 to 1798.
Even today, whether on Sunday church or on the way home, often the gaze wanders the old bell tower just like an old friend - nice that we see each other!
But time was not passed without a trace on the old confidant. At the beginning of the 18th century, the wooden construction proved to be so dilapidated that a complete renovation was necessary. Through a collection of church members, the funds could be procured.
Also interesting was the construction of the tower clock, which today seems quite archaic. The simple mechanism of the clock was operated by means of long ropes suspended field stones. If they came threateningly close to the ground, they had to be pulled up again. This had always been the task of the faithful sexton until the clock finally got an electric drive.
And another interesting story could tell the bell tower: "The bell tower as Flimset". In 1947 some scenes of the film "Wege im Zwielicht" by Gustav Fröhlich were filmed here.
While walking through the historic center of Wienhausen, you can still feel a bit of it, as it was in times gone by, when people left unnoticed "time" as the measure of all things.
