After almost two years of planning and construction, the Ahrenshooper Schifferkirche was consecrated in 1951. To this day, the still relatively young church impresses with its special construction, which stands out from the majority of the houses located on the German Baltic coast: It consists of six wooden three-legged trusses, which find their conclusion with a pointed arch and thus radiate gothic flair.

The wooden ribs are visible from the inside as well as outside and lead from the thatched roof into the foundation of concrete chunks. The exterior of the church resembles a boat lying on the keel.

The floor of the Schiffer church is paved with bricks, the walls and ceilings are made of superimposed boards. Its striking features include the western gable with a complete glazing. Two tall, narrow window panels on the right and left sides of the church provide light at the altar.

Unusual is also the interior of today listed building, which was compiled due to limited financial resources with the help of the architect Hardt-Waltherr Hämer and the population ........

The small church was designed 1941-1951 by architect Hardt-Watherr Hämer and built from locally donated wood. It has the shape of a keel upside down boat. The simple interior contains wooden sculptures. The Alterwand, the pulpit and the baptismal stand are works of the Ahrenshooper sculptor Doris Oberländer-Seeberg (source: Kurverwaltung Born)
