      Arco Castle sits enthroned high atop a mighty rocky hill. Its steep walls watch over the Sarca Valley and, of course, the small town of Arco, whose historic center lies in a semicircle around the slopes of the hill. The first documents about the castle date back to the 12th century, although the first settlements are said to have been established here as early as 300 BC.

      Inside the magnificent castle, visitors can visit a prison, as well as the great tower and numerous stately halls and chambers. A true gem is the secular fresco cycle from the 14th century, depicting personalities and court life: from noble ladies and noblemen playing chess to Saint George slaying the dragon and brave knights.

      Arco Castle is also the town's landmark and one of the most famous testimonies to Trentino's glorious past. It has been immortalized in many paintings and engravings, including a watercolor by Albrecht Dürer, which now hangs in the Louvre in Paris.

      Arco Castle can be visited and is a 20-minute walk from the village center.

            The sweaty ascent from the village only takes about 15 minutes and already offers great views. However, after entering the castle complex (admission was 3.50 euros), there is also a 30-minute tour, where a certain ability to walk is required.
            The castle complex offers interesting insights into the history of the castle, as well as fantastic vantage points in all directions with great photo opportunities.
            Those who are less able to walk should use the nice and free botanical garden of Arco right at the entrance to the ascent path.
