The Litoměřice diocese is part of the Roman Catholic Church. It was founded in 1655 by Pope Alexander VII. and is an institution with a centuries-old tradition.

The Roman Catholic Church is made up of local churches, or dioceses. A diocese is a precisely defined territory where Catholic Christians live. The Diocese of Litoměřice covers an area of 9,393 km2, almost one hundred and sixty thousand Roman Catholic believers live in it, and there are 1,265 sacred buildings (churches and chapels) on its territory.

The diocese is headed by the diocesan bishop. The vicar general helps him with the administration of the diocese and the management of the diocese office, and episcopal vicars are often entrusted with special tasks - they are all appointed to their functions by the diocesan bishop.

The Bishopric of Litoměřice is therefore an institution that helps the bishop manage the diocese and bear pastoral and administrative responsibilities. It provides professional yet friendly support to individual communities of the diocese. A bishop's office, called the bishop's curia, is established for this purpose.
