The Registan of Samarkand is one of the most magnificent main squares in Central Asia. It is lined on three sides by old Islamic universities, the so-called madrasas. These are particularly magnificent and representative buildings from the 15th to 17th centuries, which in their entirety correspond perfectly with one another.

Registan is one of the most magnificent places in Central Asia and the heart of the ancient city of Samarkand in Uzbekistan. Registan means "sand place" because the river that flowed at this point left a lot of sand as it seeped in the 15th century. Registan consists of the Medresen: Ulugbeck, Sherdor and Tillakori including an Islamic university, built between 1417-1660.

We have been to Samarkand several times and each time we are fascinated again and each time it is like a fairy tale from 1001 Nights. The Uzbeks proudly invite visitors to enter the sacral buildings. They are never overly religious.
