The Kruppsche Konsumanstalt was since the second half of the 19th century part of a welfare program of the industrialist Alfred Krupp in Essen for his workforce in his company, which traded from 1903 under Friedrich Krupp AG. On the one hand, it offered its employees a reduced supply of daily necessities, but at the same time tied them up with the help of branches in the factory-based workers' colonies and the associated demands for high loyalty to their company.
