In 1964, the plans for today's existing theater construction began, which were finally built from 1970 to 1975 according to the plans of the architect Helmut Bätzner. Previously, the theater existed elsewhere. The Badische Staatstheater Karlsruhe is a so-called multi-party theater. This means that pieces from the genres opera, ballet, concert, drama and, since 2011, also "Junges Staatstheater" and Volkstheater will be performed. In addition, the Badische Staatskapelle Karlsruhe and the Badische Staatsopernchor are affiliated to the theater, which is also the main venue for the annual Handel Festival. Every two years, the State Theater is one of the organizers of the European Cultural Days and the Premières Festival.
