Between Budenheim and Heidenfahrt (or in the other direction) I recommend the path closer to the Rhine along the dam. Much nicer, leads through nature reserves, along the water and past great bathing sections. Sunbathing lawns and a sandy beach with shallow water are right next to Heidenfahrt. The way the tour is planned now, you can't see the Rhine because you drive behind the dam.
(However, the path along the Rhine is not paved and is hardly passable after a long period of wet weather.)
At the marina in Heidenfahrt (in front of the campsite) there is a recommended restaurant with a beer garden and fair prices. Open between 1.4. and 31.10. from 11:00 a.m. (inselrhein.de)

You can swim here, but be careful: only go as far into the river as you can still feel the ground beneath your feet, because the Rhine has strong currents that have killed even good swimmers.
