If you come to the memorial on the “Path of Remembrance”, your way leads past the training grounds of the Bavarian riot police past the former SS grounds. In the context of the project Hörpfade binational, an audio contribution of the sounding map was created: klingende-landkarte.de/DachauerLand-NSVergangenheit/ort-der-taeter

A cooperation between the Mauthausen - Gusen - St. Georgen Memorial Region and the Dachau Land Region. The project was funded with LEADER funds from Perg Strudengau (A) and Dachau AGIL (D).

Dachau – the meaning of this name cannot be erased from German history. It stands for all the concentration camps that the National Socialists set up in their territory.”

The Dachau Concentration Camp Memorial commemorates the first Nazi concentration camp, which opened in 1933 and was in operation until 1945. It serves as a place of remembrance and warning, where visitors can learn more about the cruel crimes of the Nazi regime.

Station 12 is the surveillance system. From 1937 to 1938 the prisoner camp was expanded. A security system was also built. With this security system
the prisoners could be guarded even better. The security system had 7 watchtowers. There were machine guns on the watchtowers.
                From these watchtowers
SS men guarded the prison camp and the prisoners. The SS men did this at all times of the day. The prison camp had a fence on three sides. This fence was 3 meters high.
There was a river on the fourth side of the prison camp.
                The river is called Würm.
The river separated the prison camp from the SS camp.
There was an outer wall around the concentration camp.
There was a barbed wire fence on the inside of the outer wall.
And in front of the Würm.
The barbed wire fence was electrically charged.
There was a barrier made of barbed wire in front of the barbed wire fence.
There was a ditch in front of it.
The ditch was 2 meters deep.

Today, the Dachau concentration camp memorial with a museum, archive and library commemorates the dead of the Dachau concentration camp. Guided tours through the area, in all languages, offer a deeply moving insight into the camp life of the prisoners and the merciless world of their National Socialist oppressors.
                    Entry is free.

A prison within a prison. You could get into these very quickly; a small violation of the rules was enough. Punishments included 10 days standing in a standing cell (70x70)

In the beginning there was a bed for every prisoner. The prisoner barracks quickly became mercilessly overcrowded

There was a lawn in front of it. At the SS, the grass area was called the neutral zone.
The Neutral Zone Inmates were not allowed to enter the neutral zone. Has an inmate entered the neutral zone? Then the guards shot this prisoner. Some prisoners were particularly afraid of the SS. These prisoners were particularly desperate. And these prisoners suffered greatly from the living conditions in the concentration camp. That's why these prisoners didn't want to live anymore.
That's why these prisoners deliberately went to the neutral zone. These prisoners were then shot. Some prisoners also threw themselves into the barbed wire fence. The electrically charged barbed wire fence then killed the prisoners. Sometimes security guards have
Prisoners forced to go to the neutral zone. Then the SS men could claim:
                                        These prisoners wanted to escape.
Then the SS men were able to shoot the prisoners.
