The six-arch bridge is a direct connection across the deep Ilmtal valley on the eastern edge of the city of Weimar. It is located in the "Webicht" forest area and is best reached via the Ilmradwanderweg from Weimar to Tiefurt.
The more than 152 m long and 38 m high bridge spans an entire valley, can therefore also be called a viaduct and is the largest bridge in the city.
It was built between 1873 and 1875.
Unfortunately, it also has a rather sad side: on the foundations you can find several crosses which remind of the people who took their lives here.

Here the railway line to Jena crosses the Ilm just 1 km east of Weimar station. Year of construction approx. 1876. The second track on the line was dismantled as a repair for the Soviet Union and partially restored after 1990. The route is still not electrified.
