The Werra bridge in Witzenhausen was built in 1608 from seven sandstone vaults, widened in 1928 with reinforced concrete vaults on both sides and partially blown up in 1945.
A makeshift bridge was then built, until the present steel frame construction was replaced in 1950 and has a total length of 475m.
Current plans are currently underway for a new bridge to be built.
