Very interesting reconstruction of seven Viking houses, parts of which were found during excavations. The reconstruction was carried out taking historical craft techniques and materials into account. On narrow wooden paths between the clay-plastered wicker walls of the houses, you get a good idea of Viking life. In summer there is a large program of events where the village comes to life and you can watch the “residents” doing their old crafts or trade with them on market days.

Seven houses, parts of which were found and excavated, were rebuilt, along with the typical boardwalk in the shape of the old wooden walkways as well as a pier, a paved stream and a landing bridge. While otherwise only materials and tools from the Viking Age were used for construction, concrete had to be used for the construction of the landing bridge to protect against the shipworm.
Only highly specialized craft firms were commissioned to rebuild the wooden structures. Even so, the work was difficult, as many of the craft techniques common in the early Middle Ages have been lost and are no longer practiced today. Although the saw was known in the Viking Age, the wood was only split with an ax because of its better stability, or used in a relatively natural way, as far as the rafters and the support timber as well as the lath construction for the clay walls.

Every year at Easter a spring market takes place here. It is worthwhile to immerse yourself in the life of the Vikings. In addition, there are plenty of other events. At the weekend, there is always something to see in the summer, eg. B. various craft techniques to the Viking Age.
For all dog lovers. The dogs rather leave at home, because they are not allowed on the outdoor area and must be tied up in front of the entrance. That is out of the question for us.

Within walking distance of the Haithabu Viking Museum, a reconstructed Viking village with seven authentic houses brings the building arts of the Viking Age back to life. Between April and October, real Vikings await you in and around the Haithabu Viking Houses, who will give you a vivid insight into life at that time.
If you don't want to wander through the museum alone, you can also use a well-designed audio guide, which not only covers the museum but also the outside area of Haithabu, across the semicircular wall to the Viking houses and the landing bridge.
With the audio guide you not only learn something about the exhibits and the Haithabu trading center, but also a lot of general information about the Vikings. Their gods are treated, as well as the diverse flora of yesteryear, which can be admired in the museum garden in Haithabu.

Admission to the Viking houses and the Viking museum currently costs 9 euros for adults, 7 euros reduced, 3 euros for children/young people and 19 euros for families. It is a combination ticket.

But it's also worth taking a tour around the Haddebyer Noor 😉. After the Viking houses you are almost alone and can enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. Before that there is a lot going on on the way to the Viking houses.
