    Otters are distributed almost worldwide, they are only missing in Australia and on remote islands. They live mainly near the water. They are excellent swimmers and divers and have inhabited all types of inland waters and even rocky sea coasts.

                    FISCHOTTER - DAHEIM AT BACH AND RIVER
                    In Germany, the otter (Lutra lutra) must be counted among the endangered species. Its distribution center is located in the eastern federal states. In the western federal states, on the other hand, only smaller remainders exist in Lower Saxony, Schleswig-Holstein and Bavaria. The Bavarian otter population is - with the exception of a few individual animals - limited to the Bavarian Forest.

                    Since 1988, the species assistance program Fischotter has been implemented in the Bavarian Forest. The project was supported until 1995 by a working group consisting of representatives of the Bavarian State Office for Nature Conservation, the Government of Lower Bavaria, the Bavarian Forest Nature Park e.V. and the consortium of Fischotterschutz.

                                  Unfortunately, none of the otters are there at the moment. It is also not clear whether the two enclosures are still occupied. Back in August, no one showed up for a long time. Information on the national park's homepage would be helpful.
