It was our second trip to Vandeleur Walled Garden, a hidden gem near Kilrush, and once again our expectations were exceeded. After a day's tour of the region, we remembered this idyllic place that was so conveniently on our way home. When we entered the garden, we were surprised by the lovingly designed Halloween decorations - a wonderful touch that made us smile.
Despite the autumnal season, the garden was a true spectacle of color. Plants whose heyday had long since passed in other gardens were presented here in their full splendor. A walk through the garden is like a meditation journey, where you leave all the stress of everyday life behind and simply immerse yourself in the moment.
As a highlight, we enjoyed the homemade cakes in the in-house café. While a storm was raging outside, we barely felt it in this sheltered garden. The prices – both in the café and for the plants for sale – were more than reasonable.
The Vandeleur Walled Garden Café not only offered us delicious treats, but also the opportunity to admire the impressive nature. Despite the busyness of the café, we always felt welcome.
The Vandeleur Walled Garden may seem like a simple garden at first glance, but it has a lot to offer: beautiful plants, a relaxed ambience and a cafe that leaves nothing to be desired. Definitely worth a visit, especially after a trip to Loop Head Lighthouse. It's a place you want to return to again and again.
