"... Sailing and sunbathing - you can experience nature at the Lohheidesee in Duisburg-Baerl.

The network of paths around the lake is connected to the forest paths in the Baerler Busch. Whether on foot, by bike or on horseback, you have the opportunity to experience the area.

The eastern part of the lake is reserved for active recreation and is available to two sailing clubs. A circular hiking trail equipped with benches was created on some of the existing routes, which also connects to the Baerler Busch path system. Sunbathing lawns are also part of the offer for visitors.

The western part of the lake is used for biotope and species protection in accordance with the specifications of the landscape plan. The aim here is to promote the undisturbed development of animals and plants through reduction. The “Petri Heil Repelen” fishing club maintains its club rooms on the north bank.

The Lohheidesee is a water area created by gravel removal on the city limits of Rheinberg and Moers (Wesel district). After the gravel removal north of the Baerler Busch and the recultivation were completed at the end of the 1980s, the lake was made accessible to citizens seeking recreation with the support of the Ruhr Area Municipal Association (today the Ruhr Regional Association - RVR) when purchasing the property.
