As "Hammelstall" first mentioned in documents, the residents were teased by the surrounding villages and called the place without further ado the longing places of the former emigrants to the USA :-)

Philadelphia is mentioned in 1713 as "Hammelstall" for the first time in a document. In 1792 it is called Philadelphia. The street village is probably a Friederizian colonist settlement in Storkower Luchwiesen. As in other Prussian areas people from different parts of the country were settled in the Storkower Vorwerke. 1775 are called a sheep farm, some colonist houses, 9 Büdner and others. The village is located on Storkower canal, which connects the Storkower lake with the Wolziger lake. Small clay and gravel lakes as well as the "Fasanerie", a park landscape in which in former times the high-bred pheasants to the hunt, give the place its scenic charm. From here you can go hiking in the direction of Storkow, Wolzig, Kummersdorf and Groß Schauen. For a traditional event with thousands of visitors, the Treckertreffen, which is organized every two years by the association "Schlepperfreunde".

This place was founded by Frederick the Great in 1772. In the swampy and sandy area around Storkow, he settled Saxons, Palatinate and Württemberg residents who actually wanted to emigrate to America, but were not allowed to. Why they were not allowed to emigrate and who prevented them from doing so is not recorded in the village chronicle. 166 families found a new home there in the Mark Brandenburg and founded nine colonies. One of them was Philadelphia, which was located at Gut Stutgarten.
