The Moselle flows into the Rhine at the Deutsches Eck. In 1897 an artificial promontory was heaped up here, on which a monumental equestrian statue of Emperor Wilhelm I was erected. This monument was not only intended to commemorate the emperor, but also his involvement in the founding of the German Empire - hence the name "Deutsches Eck".

In fact, the mouth of the Moselle was also referred to as the German Corner earlier: In the late Middle Ages, the Teutonic Order built the Deutschherrenhaus near the mouth as the administrative headquarters. At that time the estuary was called "Deutscher Ordt", but it soon became "Deutsches Eck".

A historic and strange place, not free of nationalism but beautiful at dusk. I can not win much from Kaiser Wilhelm. Bismarck has done more. And the Hohenzollern prevented a united Germany for a long time. But even such a place is part of our history and origin.

After four days of the Moselle tour from Metz, 85 km each, we arrived and what are the people of Koblenz doing? They are closing off the Deutsches Eck because of an event!! Honestly, dear people from Koblenz: don't you have any other places for events!?!?!? Anyone who cycles for four days wants to take the final destination photo and not just anywhere.
It was a very nice tour but it really annoyed me.
