The observation tower was ceremoniously inaugurated on May 20, 1900. There are 169 steps up to the 30-meter-high observation platform. From the top you have a wonderful view of Döbeln, the romantic Mulde valley and the surrounding area. In the GDR, the tower was temporarily used as an antenna system for receiving television broadcasts.

The Dutch Tower is open for the Open Monument Day, currently 10.09.23, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A trip to Döbeln is always worthwhile, for example on the day the horse-drawn tram is running. The city museum in the town hall tower (with giant boots, art gallery, viewing platform) and St. Nicholas Church (with one of the largest carved altars in Saxony and the Mirakelmann, a medieval sacral puppet with movable limbs, in a wooden shrine that can be opened up, as well as romantic dyers' houses behind the church) are (usually) open. The only thing that isn't so good about lunchtime restaurants on Saturdays is that we were finally saved by the Körner bakery on the Niedermarkt (which offers snacks).
