Aha: In the Netherlands, a Vliedberg is an artificial hill that was built in the early Middle Ages as an escape hill during floods. Vliedbergs can be found in the Dutch province of Zeeland, especially on the Walcheren peninsula.

Sint Jan ter Heere has become a small hamlet and is located between Westkapelle and Aierterkerke. A handful of workers' houses and farms from the 19th century, a few street names and a Vliedberg remind us of what once was. Sint Jan ter Heere has a history that goes back to the 7th century and had its own monastery in the 13th century, the Benedictine monastery "Porta Coeli".

There was also a commandery, which is an estate controlled by a commander of a knighthood.

Commandery Kerckwerve hosted the members of the Sovereign Military Hospitalier Order of Saint John of Jerusalem, Rhodes and Malta. The monastery has disappeared and a few centuries later an estate was built, which was given the name "Hazenhof".
