Gladys Dart was the first teacher in the reorganized Manley Hot Springs grade school in 1958, using this old one-room school. The school was named after her. She turned 100 in 2018 and died on May 13, 2019.

Chuck and Gladys Dart lived most of their lives in the village of Manley Hot Springs on the Tanana River. As the name suggests, there are active hot springs, a major feature of the village and the lives of Chuck and Gladys who own them. They maintained a small family business geared more towards community residents than visitors. The Dart’s greenhouse produces hundreds of pounds of tomatoes each summer season as well as eggplant, melons, bellpeppers and cucumbers.
