This monastery ruin is one of my favorite places: A former Benedictine monastery, of which the new one is only up to 6 mtrs. high remains of the outer walls are well preserved.
The convent was dissolved around 1432/1440, buildings and goods remained in the hands of the abbot of Maria Laach.
Due to disputes between the Gragen von Leiningen -Westerburg and the Count von Runkel, the repair of the facility was prevented, which is more and more left to decay. From the second half of the 16th century it was used as a quarry.
A support association has been taking care of the preservation since 1990 - a permanent exhibition in the information house above the monastery ruins gives interesting insights into the history.
Well worth seeing and very idyllic!
