The Mönchsteich is a lake southeast of the village of Lütjensee. It is approx. 24 ha in size and up to 2.9 m deep. Here on the north bank and also on the south bank there are some small free swimming spots.

The lake is fed by the Großensee via the Stenzenbek - an artificial breakthrough south of the Schleushörn restaurant. There is a hiking trail around the lake, but not in the northwestern part directly along the lake, here there is a fountain by Hamburg Wasser that is not open to the public. The lake is particularly popular as a bathing lake for nudists, but due to the shallow depth there are many plants in the water that can affect bathing.

The name of the historic fish pond refers to the creation of the water by monks from the Reinfeld monastery. They created the Mönchteich after a short breakthrough from neighboring Großensee named Stenzenbek. The name "Mönckedick" was first recorded on the map of the Trittau, Reinbek, Tremsbüttel and Steinhorst offices in 1649 in the country description by Caspar Danckwerth and Johannes Mejer to the Hamburger Wasserwerke GmbH after the entry into force of the Greater Hamburg Act.
