The quest looks so interesting from below, perched on top of the mountain, that you just have to go up there to see it up close. Admittedly, the climb is not entirely without problems. However, from above you have a wonderful view of Questenberg and the orchards, where you can walk past and pick yourself a little snack.

The quest is a truly mystical place. The ubiquitous karst rock alone makes it unique. It is said that there used to be a place of worship here. The Questefest is still celebrated today at Pentecost. Down in the valley, Questenberg is oddly squeezed between the cliffs. On the other side you can see the Questenburg ruins. The beech forest behind the Queste is a real wild garlic paradise in late spring.

Here, pre-Christian and Christian customs seem to be inextricably linked. The tradition is not limited to the big quests up here, because in 2016 at the restaurant "Zur Queste" down in town, Liane gave us a quest made of fried mashed potatoes (similar to a potato croquette) as a side dish - delicious, highly recommended!

When descending from the Queste in the direction of Ort via Gletschertöpfe, you pass the information sign for the Ringwall monument.
The Queste ring wall - located opposite the Questenberg castle ruins - was a prehistoric hill fort. As an early Germanic place of worship, it still houses the Queste and the HWN stamp office 212.

The quest is a giant wreath of brushwood attached to a tree trunk about ten meters high. At the ends of the cross brush bundles are also fastened, the so-called tassels. Every Whit Monday, the old brushwood is removed and renewed with fresh birch and beech green.

The Quest is a symbol with an unclear history and meaning. It is associated with Germanic mythology, but more likely comes from Wendish (Slavic) tradition.

The custom of building a quest tree still exists in Questenberg today. There, every Whit Monday at 3 a.m., all the villagers are woken up to take down the old wreath together at sunrise on the Queste (♁⊙), which stands protecting and blessing on a rocky cliff that towers over the village. The old brushwood is burned and in the afternoon the wreath and tassels are replaced with fresh birch and beech green.
