The foundations of the building, originally a moated castle, probably date back to the 12th century. In the early 18th century, it underwent significant renovations. The access to the old staircase was walled up, a new entrance was created, and an extension was built to house the current staircase. In 1739, Wilhelm Ludwig Thumb von Neuburg acquired the property, and it remains in the family's possession today.

Unterboihingen Castle, originally likely a medieval moated castle from the 12th century, boasts an idyllic castle garden, outbuildings, and a beautiful cast-iron fountain dating from 1833. It is surrounded by an old castle wall with a picturesque corner pavilion. The castle is not open to the public. However, since 2015, parts of the estate have been available for event bookings, including the library, which was probably formerly a castle chapel. The complex also includes the administrative building, the so-called "Rentamt," built around 1800, and the sheepfold.
