During the renovation work at Liedberg Castle, workers discovered eight bricked-in shoes. Some kind of "defensive spell"? More than 1,500 finds have been scientifically evaluated, but the preservationists have not come across the riddle: "So far there is no source that mentions the walling in of shoes in buildings as a custom or building tradition." One thing is certain: when Liedberg was converted into a baroque palace , the shoes have also been hidden. Parts of the building dating from the 14th to the 18th century are still preserved today. Since Peter Overlack bought the facility in 2007, it has been extensively renovated.

The complex was built as a hilltop castle with an outer and main castle in the 13th century after the Roman Guard, as the center of the Liedberg fortress. In the Middle Ages, Liedberg was a large fortress with a large, enclosed moat ("black moat"), which z. T. was filled with water and included large parts of today's village of Liedberg.

According to the monuments authority, the foundation walls of Liedberg Castle are from the 11th century. The main or central tower can be dated to around 1270. It served as a gate tower and keep and has a 1.60 meter thick masonry
