Anyone who has done the classic Ring of Steall will be familiar with this wire bridge crossing over the Water of Nevis. It comprises three wires, one for your feet and two as handrails. It can be quite intimidating, especially in winter when a dunking could be potentially dangerous, as well as cold.

When you stand in front of the bridge, you take a quick look at the shaky ropes, but then there's nothing to do but walk over. A great change of pace on this hike.

I first crossed this three wire bridge over fifty years ago and it hasn’t really changed since. I have no idea how many times I have crossed it but it is always fun. I always enjoy watching visitors wrestling with their first traverse. Fortunately few fall in.

It is difficult for children under 13 years or 1.50m to cross the bridge because their arms are eventually too short to hold on to both ropes. But you can cross the two streams 50-100m upstream in shallower places if you take off your shoes and roll up your trousers.

Beautiful area, a little out of the way but still quite a few people. The bridge is easy to cross. On the way back I wanted to go back through the river, so my feet got a little wet, which wasn't too bad in the weather :)

Great fun on this bridge to get a close view of Steall Falls however it is nerve racking. Take care when going over as it is a high one over the river. Also if the bridge isn't for you there are some shallow parts you can Wade across the river or you can see the waterfall without crossing also.
