The obelisk "Heliopolis" (= City of Light) by Wolf Bröll from 1990 is located in the Reichsstrasse pedestrian zone. Inspired by the ancient Egyptians and Romans, the sculptor created a pleasantly humane symbol of power three meters high from finely grained Carrara marble. In contrast to the strict form of the obelisk, the surface is designed to be wavy and playful, thus offering an attractive play of light in keeping with the Heliopolis theme. With this obelisk, Wolf Bröll also refers to the Renaissance architecture adopted from Italy by city architect Schickhardt 400 years ago.
