The Countess Loretta dream loop was certified in 2009 by the German Hiking Institute as a premium hiking trail with 84 adventure points.

Start of the dream loop hiking car park on the banks of the Nahe in Frauenberg. Recommended running direction counterclockwise.

𝐊𝐮𝐫𝐳𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐧𝐠

Narrow paths and enchanted idyllic valleys with a view over the Hunsrück hills and the Nahe valley, as well as the ruins of the Frauenburg, are part of this dream loop. The Nahekopf was already inhabited in Celtic and Roman times. When Heinrich II von Sponheim-Starkenburg died, his wife, Countess Loretta von Sponheim, controlled the economic and political fortunes of the County of Sponheim. In 1328, one of the most powerful men in Europe, Balduin of Luxembourg, had Archbishop of Trier taken into custody. According to legend, she used the ransom to build Frauenburg Castle, where she lived until her death in 1346.

The namesake of this tour was an extraordinary woman of the 14th century. At the age of 27, the young widow took control of the county in 1323 and ran it with a strong hand until 1331 for her three children.
The daring capture of the mighty imperial prince, Baldwin von Trier, in 1328 made it go down in history and shook all of Europe. The ban from the Pope and the eight from the Emperor were the answer. When she passed the reign to her son, she retired to Frauenburg Castle and the 50-year-old died. She was buried next to her husband in the Himmerod monastery.
