The Piazza del Duomo isn't just a square—it's considered one of the most beautiful Baroque squares in all of Italy, if not Europe.
The most fascinating thing about the cathedral itself (Cattedrale di Santa Maria delle Colonne) is that it was literally built around an ancient Greek temple.
The Temple of Athena: In the 5th century BC, a magnificent Doric temple stood here.
The Integration: As you walk along the side of the cathedral or enter, you'll see the massive, original Greek columns seamlessly integrated into the Christian church walls. This is living history spanning over 2,500 years.

Iron Balcony: The elaborately wrought iron balcony at the top of the facade is a striking feature, typical of Spanish-influenced architecture in this region.
