The ruins of Bosselstein Castle are currently (6/2019) closed due to construction work!
First documented mention in 1187.
Bosselstein Castle has been falling apart since 1660.
UPDATE: 5/2022 - The ruin is accessible again, the barriers have been removed. However, the paths there are "officially" closed due to the rock stabilization work on the rock church below. However, no work is taking place and weathered signs of the closures are usually only visible when you leave the path.

Bosselstein Castle
Bosselstein Castle is located on the church rock above the rock church of Idar-Oberstein. The summit castle was built over the Nahe valley in the 12th century by the lords of Stein. It was first mentioned in a document in 1197. From 1600 the castle was no longer inhabited. The dilapidated ruin went to the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1945. The curtain wall and part of the round keep are still preserved.
