The East Glacier Trail offers a more remote-feeling, less-crowded experience than some of the other trails in the area. But it still gives you great views of Mendenhall Glacier in the near distance, and Mendenhall Lake at its feet.

The ice on the edge is at least 150 years old. The glacier river has a length of almost 20 kilometers, the glacier tongue is 30 meters high and two kilometers wide at the glacier lake, Mendenhall Lake. The adjacent Mendenhall Lake is up to 60 meters deep.
