Behram-beg's Madrasah in Tuzla is the oldest educational institution in northeastern Bosnia. Relevant historical sources state that it began operating before 1626. The building of the Madrasah on the Square was built in 1896 after the old building disappeared in a fire in 1871. It was built in the Arab-Moorish style and has been restored and expanded several times.
Due to subsidence, the building of the Madrasah on the Square was demolished in 1974. Only the portal has been preserved, which over time has become one of the recognizable symbols of Tuzla and is a National Monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are plans by the city authorities to restore the old Madrasah building.
