The historic Friedenstein stands on the site of the Battle of Brücker Mill on September 21, 1762, in memory of the battle there and the end of the Seven Years' War. Between Friedenstein and the bridge over the Ohm and the Brücker Mill next to it, stands the site of the former inn "Brücker Wirtshaus".

During the Seven Years' War, one of the decisive battles between the French on the one hand and the Hessians, Hanoverians and English allied with Prussia on the other took place at the Brücker Mill on September 21, 1762, when the French army tried in vain to force the Ohm crossing. The battle at the Brücker Mill ended after 14 hours without a clear winner. It was the bloodiest of the entire war in Upper Hesse and claimed a total of 527 dead and 1363 wounded. On November 15, 1762, Duke Ferdinand of Brunswick-Wolfenbüttel and the two French marshals Le Tellier and Soubise concluded a ceasefire in the Brücker Mill, which is still commemorated today in the courtyard of the "Brücker Wirtshaus", which was built in 1752 and borders the mill, by a baroque obelisk erected at the time, the "Friedenstein".
