Within the Pannonian Lake complex, the first Archaeological Park of a Neolithic hut settlement in Bosnia and Herzegovina was built and opened in 2006. The Archaeological Park represents a reconstruction of part of a Neolithic hut settlement discovered in Tuzla. The Park is an open-air museum and shows part of the archaeological and historical past of Tuzla, as well as the way of life, both material and spiritual, and especially the first production of salt in the Neolithic era.
The assumption that the Neolithic inhabitants exploited the salt springs is supported by the discovery of fragments of ceramic vessels that, according to archaeologists, were used for desalination of salt water. Two vessels were reconstructed, one of which is dated to 3,500 BC, and the other to 5,000 BC. So, from the Neolithic to the present day, people in the area of present-day Tuzla have been producing salt.
