The flagpole is 133 meters high, and the flag measures 52 x 35 meters. The silk of the flag weighs half a ton and is replaced every three months.
The silk flag features five vertical red stripes, each depicting a carpet motif—known as a göl—representing the five main Turkmen tribes.
It also features five white stars and a white crescent moon.
The green color and the white crescent symbolize Islam, while the five stars represent the five major religious communities (velayat) of Turkmenistan.
The göls are intended as a symbol of national identity and reflect the ancient nomadic tradition of carpet weaving.
The flagpole is located near the National Museum.
