The River Horizon Archway is a public art installation along the Trout Run Trail in Decorah, Iowa. Designed by Bounnar Thammavong, an artist from Iowa City, the arch takes the form of a silver fish swimming, symbolizing a gateway between the trail’s urban and rural sections. This design pays homage to the region’s renowned trout streams and was inspired by the artist’s childhood memories of fishing with his grandfather near Decorah. Situated on the scenic 11-mile loop of Trout Run Trail—an amenity cherished by the community for activities like biking, walking, and skiing—the archway not only celebrates the area’s natural beauty but also highlights the blend of community development and outdoor enjoyment that defines the trail.
