Cozzo, located in western Lomellina, is a municipality of ancient origins, with Roman roots confirmed by the discovery of a milestone (3rd century AD) and mentions in historical itineraries as a post station between Pavia and Turin. The village, historically known as Cottiae or Cuttiae, was contested in the Middle Ages between the Counts of Lomello and Vercelli, later passing under the rule of Pavia, the Visconti, and finally to the Gallarati-Scotti family.
