At 2,316 metres, the summit of Roche Miette offers sweeping views over the Athabasca River valley and the eastern ranges of Jasper National Park. The mountain’s sheer limestone cliffs rise dramatically above Highway 16, but from the top, the terrain opens into broad alpine ridges with panoramic sightlines stretching toward Miette Hot Springs and beyond. The name, translating to “Miette’s Rock” in French, likely honours an early fur trader or guide from the region. The route to the summit is a long, demanding scramble, best suited for experienced hikers comfortable with loose rock and steep exposure — but the view is among Jasper’s finest rewards.
