Information about the past of the building is provided by the history portal of the Heimatverein: The Old Town Hall was rebuilt around 1730 on the columns of the predecessor building destroyed in the fire in 1634. This was first mentioned in 1476. Until 1875, the building served as the town hall, while the hall of the restaurant is the council hall. Later, the boys' school (1877 to 1902) and the trade school (1909 to 1956) were housed in the house.

In 1929, the Old Town Hall was the first building in Waiblingen where the timber framing was uncovered. In a thorough renovation in the seventies, the later installations on the ground floor have been removed and the former Schranne (market hall) and the old staircase restored. Since then the building serves as a restaurant.

The arcades below the town hall are now a popular and covered location at markets and the Old Town Festival and home of the Punch and Judy at the Christmas market.

When the house in 1870 no longer met the demands, there were plans to demolish it and to build a new building. Because this would have fundamentally changed the appearance of the marketplace, one refrained from it.
